Zendaya has been rocking a bob for a while now, as the actress has fashioned the short hair trend since 2022. However, despite a blunt cut being all the rage, Zendaya was recently seen sporting what is known as the Baroque Bob at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California.
The Baroque Bob is certainly having a moment, as it’s seen as an up-and-coming spring 2024 hair trend. “[It’s] all down to the blow-dry and finish,” hairstylist Francesca Inverarity said to Vogue. “It’s a simple but structured cut that is styled into voluminous, sculpted waves.”
Sporting a deep side part, Zendaya channeled a voluminous and dynamic hairstyle while seated courtside with her boyfriend Tom Holland during the final day of the tournament. Teamed with a casual Louis Vuitton cream tracksuit and a white vest top, her hairstyle exuded sophistication and A-list allure.
Zendaya is on the list of many who have decided to continue donning chopped hair. Hailey Beiber famously debuted short hair in early 2023, and more recently, Sydney Sweeney and Gigi Hadid were seen sporting bob hairstyles as well. The celebrity obsession with bobs comes as no surprise, as chopped hair has consistently seen popularity from era to era.
“Every decade, there’s a new take on the bob, and with each incarnation, the bob manages to shock and awe people,” hairstylist Mark Townsend previously told Allure. “I became a hairdresser when I saw Madonna’s bob in the “Express Yourself” video.”
The latest iteration of the bob, the Baroque Bob, is a reimagination of an old Hollywood bob hairstyle that was seen on stars like Rita Hayworth and Marilyn Monroe.
“It oozes glamour and sophistication,” Inverarity also said to Vogue. “It’s a classic bob shape, which draws inspiration from timeless Hollywood icons”.
